Considering present economic constraints, 593 Brigade troops of the 59 Division under the Security Force HQ-Mullaitivu with sponsorship received from Buddhist monks and the 'Sarana' Foundation gave away dry ration packs and spade blades to needy civilians in Nayaru area after inviting the beneficiaries to the Kohombagas Junction public ground on Monday (28).
Singapore-based Ven Nakulagamuwe Sumana Thero in collaboration with the 'Sarana' Foundation, presided by Mrs S Wijewardene sponsored the cost of those incentives. Accordingly, 50 pregnant women received a pack of nutrients and dry rations to the value of Rs 10,000/= each and 200 low-income group families simultaneously received a dry ration pack to the value of Rs 15,000/=each, along with a donation of 50 metal spade blades to the farmers in the area.
Major General Sanjaya Wanasinghe, Commander, Security Forces-Mullaitivu joined the occasion as the Chief Guest at the invitation of Brigadier Pradeep Kulathilaka, Commander, 593 Brigade and the General Officer Commanding, 59 Division. Troops of the 5 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment and the 19 Gemunu Watch of the 593 Brigade organized the event under the supervision of their Comanding Officers.
Ven Nakulagamuwe Sumana Thero and the ‘Sarana' Foundation provided generous financial sponsorship for the event in consultation with the Security Force HQ-Mullaittivu.
Ven Huriyagaswewa Sadhdhawasa Thero, Ven Thissaputta Thero, Chief incumbent at Kokilai Sri Sambodhi Viharaya, Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks were associated with the event.
