The 68 Infantry Division of the Security Force Headquarters - Mullaittivu (SFHQ-MLT) organized the ‘Inter Club Football Tournament’ with the intention of promoting goodwill and reconciliation between the Security Forces and the general public of Puthukkuddiyirippu. The final match was played at St Anthony's Ground on Saturday (27 May).
This event was made a reality with the guidelines given by the General Officer Commanding of the 68 Infantry Division, Major General S. Kasthurimudali RSP ndu psc and the assistance of the 681 and 682 Infantry Brigades and their under-command battalions.
12 local sports clubs competed in the football tournament. After competing in the preliminary rounds, the St Anthony’s Sports Club team and the Puthukkuddiyirippu East Super Ranks qualified for the finals. During the finals, Puthukkuddiyirippu East Super Ranks won the championship after a tight encounter scoring penalties 6-4 against their rivals, St Anthony’s Sports Club.
The Commander, Security Forces - Mullaittivu, Major General U.D. Wijesekera RWP RSP USP rcds psc witnessed the encounter as the Chief Guest and awarded certificates and trophies to the winners and runners-up.
The General Officer Commanding of the 68 Infantry Division, Commander, 682 Infantry Brigade, Senior Officers, Officers, Other Ranks, clergy, representatives from civil authorities and a large crowd of local spectators watched the final tussle.
