A total of about 200 civilians of low-income group families in Mullaittivu received consultations and treatment during a mobile eye camp, held at the old 593 Infantry Brigade premises following an initiative, taken by Major General M.K Jayawardena RSP VSV USP ndu Commander, Security Forces - Mullaittivu and Major General D.K.S.K Dolage USP psc, General Officer Commanding, 59 Infantry Division with the support of Colonel S.N.M.A.B Arambepola RWP, Commander, 591 Infantry Brigade.
During the mobile camp, 591 Infantry Brigade troops provided free refreshments, lunch and transport facilities in view of the importance of the project.
The medial clinic, manned by Dr. Nishma Razeek, Eye Surgeon at Mullaittivu District Hospital and a medical team from both Mullaittivu and Vavuniya hospitals continued from 8.30 am until 5.00 pm.
The coordination of the medical team and a sponsorship, provided by Dr. Sarveshwaram, Eye Surgeon at Vavuniya hospital enabled the conduct of the clinic for the benefit of poor people in the area.
The mobile clinic screened deserving patients for cataract surgeries and recommended their admission to the Vavuniya hospital for the surgery on 11 December 2023.
During the same project, a stock of spectacles were also distributed among visually-impaired civilians following sponsorship given by a donor.
School students were among those who got their vision examined during the mobile camp.
