Security Force Headquarters - Mullaitivu (SFHQ-MLT) is responsible for coordinating and overseeing military operations, maintenance of peace and security in Mullaitivu and Kilinochchi districts. Being one of the regional command entities of the Army, in addition to its above-specified roles, the SFHQ-Mullaitivu has been effectively engaged in a multitude of community-oriented projects in order to boost existing civil-military relations further.
In Mullaitivu region, where hope intertwines with hardship, a dedicated endeavor exists to alleviate the plight of needy families by providing them with safe and secure shelters. Recognizing the fundamental right of every individual to a dignified living space, this initiative aimed to empower those facing adversity and help them regain their footing in life.
In addressing the multi-faceted challenges faced by needy families in Mullaitivu, on the directions of successive Commanders of the Army, the Security Force Headquarters - Mullaitivu with the support, extended by non-governmental organizations, humanitarian agencies, and local community groups has undertaken the responsibility to lend a helping hand to alleviate most burning issues, very much caused due to homelessness. The Army has throughout worked tirelessly to provide families with decent and affordable housing options, aiming to break the cycle of poverty and vulnerability.
To this date, Mullaitivu troops to their credit with their technical expertise and manpower had constructed 207 houses for deserving civilians and vested them in needy families. As at present, construction of 4 more such new houses for the poor is underway under the guidance and selfless efforts of the Mullaitivu Commander, respective General Officers Commanding and Brigade Commanders serving under the Security Force HQ - Mullaitivu. During 2009 - 2023, troops have built those new houses for the underprivileged in Mullaitivu and Kilinochchi areas.
Housing programmes in the Mullaittivu area have made a significant difference in the lives of many poverty-ridden families. Through the Army’s dedication and commitment, these initiatives have borne fruit and turned beacons of hope, offering families a chance to rebuild their lives and envision a brighter future.
The Army, well-determined to create a better tomorrow for those poverty-stricken people in the Mullaitivu region by healing the wounds of deprived sections of our society, has round the clock lent their helping hand generously to the people in Mullaitivu in an attempt to promote ethnic harmony, reconciliation and peaceful environment in the country.
