Mullaittivu Camp Siege Remembered Offering Flowers

Offer of floral tributes to the memory of brave War Heroes who made the supreme sacrifice during the LTTE siege on the Mullaittivu camp during 17 - 18 July 1996 recalled their undying gallantry during a commemoration ceremony, held on Saturday (18) at the War Heroes’ monument in the Mullaittivu camp premises.

Major General Jagath Rathnayake, Commander, Security Forces - Mullaittivu at the invitation of Major Lalith Epa, Commanding Officer, 9 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment camp joined the commemoration ceremony, together with several Senior Officers as the Chief Guest.

A total of 44 Officers and 1125 Other Ranks, belonging to 5th Brigade (119), 9 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (478) and 6 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (572) laid their precious lives when LTTE terrorists stormed the Mullaittivu camp and kept it under siege for two days having blocked all supply routes.

The day’s Chief Guest placed the first floral wreath and saluted the memory of fallen War Heroes. Afterwards, Senior Officers, Other Ranks and civil staffers followed suit and honoured them with flowers.

General Officer Commanding, 59 Division, Brigade Commanders of 591 & 682 Brigades, Commanding Officers of 12 Sri Lanka Light Infantry, 24 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment and representatives of 6 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment and 14 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment and few Other Ranks joined the solemn commemoration ceremony. affiliate tracking url | Nike
