More War Heroes &;amp; Their Families Honoured by President Rajapaksa

HIS EXCELLENCY the President Mahinda Rajapaksa whose unchallenged leadership that brought about peace to the country, once again honoured fallen and still working War Heroes Sunday (11) morning after opening a mega housing project, close to the hill capital, Kandy.

President Rajapaksa symbolically handed over the keys of a newly built house, using funds from ‘Api Wenuwen Api’ project which was constructed by Engineering Services Regiment (ESR) with the coordination of the Seva Vanitha Branch, Ministry of Defence (MoD). The spouse of the Staff Sergeant M.D Samith Karunawansa of the 1st Battalion Special Forces who sacrificed his life at Vellamullivaikkal where the final battles were on, received the keys for their new house. At District level, 24 more new hoses were simultaneously released to War Heroes out of a project intending to build some 700 houses.

President Rajapaksa in the company of Cabinet Ministers, Governor of Central Province, Chief Minister for Central Province,  Members of Parliament, Defence Secretary, President Seva Vanitha MoD Branch, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) and Commander of the Air Force, Commander of the Army, Commander of the Navy, Inspector General of Police (IGP) and several other distinguished guests graced the occasion, culminated by speeches and entertaining features. 

The Governor of the Central Province Mr Tikiri Kobbekaduwa speaking to the gathering on the occasion reminded that though the war was over there are still forces that are working against the country both in Sri Lanka and overseas. He also stressed the importance of being alert to these anti-Sri Lanka sentiments round the clock.

Director General at the Media Centre for National Security (MCNS) Mr Luxman Hulugalle in his speech at the occasion rejected claims by a section of the media over irregularities and deceptive measures, said to have been associated with the ‘Api Wenuwen Api’ fund raising MoD campaign.
