MULLAITTIVU: TROOPS now in its final push for emancipation of trapped civilians, with the Army opening up an escape route on Thursday (14) continued their simultaneous surveillance and extended searches in VELLAMULLVAIKKAL, KARAYANMULLIVAIKKAL, PUTHUKUDIYIRUPPU, RAMANADAPURAM and MULLAITTIVU areas.
Confrontations that continued in VELLAMULLIVAIKKAL brought death to more than two dozens of Tiger terrorists on Thursday (14). By Friday (15) morning, 58 Division troops have recovered 14 dead bodies of the LTTE terrorists along with one 12.7 anti air craft gun and twenty nine T-56 weapons, one RPG rocket launcher, one LTTE made ‘Baba’ mortar.
Similarly, 53 Division troops also continued their confrontations in the general area of KARIYAMULLAVAIKKAL and inflicted casualties on the enemy during intermittent fighting. Troops also recovered two LTTE dead bodies and two T-56 weapons, the same day (14).
Meanwhile, 57 Division troops went on recovering more and more terrorist military items during several searches conducted in PUTHUKUDIYIRUPPU east areas Thursday (14).
Two T-56 weapons from PATTAKAKARAI, MULLAITHIVU, four Rocket Propelled Grenades (RPGs), one 120mm mortar bomb, one 81mm mortar bomb, 40 Arul bombs, twenty five hand grenades, one 40 mm grenade cartridge, one hundred electric detonators, sixty dummy claymores from RAMANATHPURAM and three more Arul bombs, sixteen electric detonators, seventy-two non-electric detonators, twenty-two land mine fuses, twenty-seven detonators, one I-com set, one Bangalore torpedoes, one hundred and twenty-nine hand grenades, eight ammunition belts, seventy-three 9 v batteries, one Outboard Motor (OBM), thirty anti-personnel mine fuses, one map, nine pouches, four 0.58 cartridges from PUTHUKKUDIYIRUPPU were collected during Thursday (14).
Meanwhile, one more T-56 weapon from VISUAMADUKULAM by Task Force-II troops and one claymore mine with 20 m long wire from OLUMADU, MANKULAM were also recovered by Task Force-III troops, the same day (14).
