More Terrorists Killed In Confrontations

NORTH & EAST : DURING THE PAST 12 hours starting from Monday (8) 8.00 a.m. troops deployed in the north and east confronted Tiger terrorists in several places and killed at least eight of them while recovering stocks of explosives and ammunition, including a large stock of other warlike items belonging to the them.

Two more Tiger terrorists were shot and killed by vigilant troops on duty at the forward elements of the KILALY Defence Line Monday (8) at about 8.00 a.m. when LTTE terrorists tried to infiltrate aiming another attack on the Security Forces.

Troops opened small arms fire on the gang of LTTE cadres who were approaching steadily towards them and killed two of them, just a couple of meters ahead of the troops.

The remaining cadres who were fear stricken ran in all directions leaving the dead bodies of their cadres.

Meanwhile troops in CHIRUPPIDI the same day(8) received information on hidden ammunitions and a communicative equipment of LTTE terrorists and recovered one ICOM Radio set, three hand grenades and ten rounds of live ammunition from an abandoned land at about 7.00p.m.

Troops deployed in VAVUNIYA meanwhile confronted Tiger terrorists at several locations Monday (8) and killed at least six of them during day time.

In the first incident, troops exchanged small arms fire with Tiger terrorists who were hiding in the general area of OLIWATTATIVU at about 8.00 a.m.

Troops confirmed that they have shot and killed four terrorists in the incident.

In another incident at THAMPANAI the same day (8) troops fired at a group of Tiger terrorists who tried to storm the security lines at about 11.40a.m.

At least two terrorists were killed and a large number of other LTTE cadres were severely injured by troops during the confrontation.

In POKKARAVERNI the same day (8) a fierce firefight erupted between troops and Tiger terrorists when LTTE launched an attack on a group of soldiers who were clearing the area at about 1.10 p.m.

One valiant soldier was injured critically and late succumbed to injuries on admission to the hospital.

In the meantime troops conducted several search operations in VILLATTIKULAM and POKKARAVANI areas the same day (8) and recovered large stock of explosives and ammunition during day time.

Twenty-three 60 mm mortar bombs, fifty three 60 mm mortar fuses, forty six 82mm mortar bombs, 8 Arul bombs, 26 Anti Personnel mines, nine improvised explosive devices, three T-56 magazines, 6300 live rounds of T-56 ammunition and a roll of antenna wires were recovered hidden in a jungle in VILLATTIKULAM at about 8.00a.m.

Meanwhile troops in POKKARAVANI with the assistance of Engineer soldiers unearthed 600 anti personnel mines which had been laid by Tiger terrorists in the area around 4.00 p.m.

Troops in TRINCOMALEE in the meantime the same day (8) reported similar recoveries from PERARU jungle area and PALAUTHTHU during day time.

Troops clearing PERARU jungles in TRINCOMALEE at about 10.00a.m.recovered one generator along with 60 packets of mosquito coils, 184 pieces of soap, 24 saline bottles, 29 bandage rolls, one blood pressure machine and 70 canned fish tins hidden safely in a scrub for their future use.

Meanwhile in PALAUTHTHU area Monday (8) troops conducted another search and clear operation and recovered two T-56 weapons, eight T-56 magazines, three military helmets, three boot pairs, two belt order kits, three combat uniforms and 230 rounds of live ammunition from an abandoned land in the area.

Further to the incident reported regarding the Monday morning (8) claymore attack on STF at BAKMITIYAWA, AMPARA, STF personnel launched a search operation at about 8 35a.m. in the area and recovered one dead body of a LTTE carder who was in the possession of eight Anti Personnel mines, one claymore mine and a length of detonator wire.
