More Smuggled Turmeric Stocks Detected in Mannar

54 Division's Intelligence troops in combination with 7 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment troops recovered a smuggled turmeric haul of 390 kg from Mannar early morning on Saturday (7).

The Quick Reaction Team of 7 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment swiftly reached the location and recovered the contraband, believed to have been smuggled from India. The market value of the bulk is approximately Rs 2.34 m. No suspects have been arrested and the recovered haul was handed over to the Mannar Police station for further investigations.

Under the direction of the Commander of the Army and the Commander Security Forces Wanni, 54 Division troops have been very active in curbing illegal activities in the Mannar District, specially deterring smuggling of Kerala cannabis and turmeric from India. Since June last year, the 54 Division under the guidance of the present General Officer Commanding has taken into custody smuggled Kerala cannabis, turmeric and sand mining activities of over Rs 245 m in market value. The information gathering, operational direction and swift action by the troops are the keys to recent successes achieved by the 54 Division in Mannar District.
