12 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) troops of the 552 Brigade under the 55 Division of the Security Forces - Jaffna apprehended a person trying to transport 2 kgs of Kerala Cannabis (Ganja) from Iyyakachchi to Kilinochchi at the Elephant Pass roadblock on Tuesday (29).
Cannabis and the suspect were handed over to the Pallai Police Station for further investigations.
Meanwhile, a Group of 3 Commando Regiment in combination with Intelligence & Security Group of the 54 Division upon receipt of intelligence conducted clearing operations in the general area of Kondachchi and recovered 434 kg of smuggled turmeric, stacked in 10 packs while the stock had been kept hidden inside the jungles. The value of the stock has been estimated at Rs 1.73 million.
