More Donations, More Community Projects Help Kilinochchi Civilians

The second phase of the humanitarian donation programme for flood-affected Kilinochchi students got underway during 23-25 January, following sponsorship, provided by the Ministry of Defence, Dialog Axiata PLC and the coordination, done by the Army.

A total of 2203 school students in flood-affected Thunukkai and Pooneryn areas received new school accessories under this programme during those three days.

Army troops of the 65 and 66 Divisions on the instructions of those General Officers Commanding coordinated the distribution with the support of principals, teachers and the Department of Education in the Wanni region.

Major General Ralph Nugera, Commander, Security Forces - Kilinochchi supervised the project which has already supplied more than 5000 aid packets and 5000 ration packets to flood-affected students and civilians.

Meanwhile, 20 (V) Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment troops and 19 Sri Lanka Light Infantry troops of the 652 Brigade and 651 Brigade carried out two separate mega cleaning projects at Anavilandankulam GTM School and Thewanpiddy beach premises respectively during 26 - 28 January as a community-oriented project of the 65 Division in Thunukkai.

More than 50 Army personnel took part in both cleaning programmes.

Another donation of school equipment for flood-affected students in Kilinochchi was held with the coordination of 7 Sri Lanka Light Infantry troops of the 571 Brigade on Thursday (24).
