To be in line with the government’s directive, Major General S.R.K Hettiarachchi RWP RSP USP ndu psc, Commander, Security Forces - East on Tuesday (6 June) released 8.6 acres of land in Sittandy, Batticaloa, hitherto being used by 4 Gemunu Watch troops for operational requirements.
Legal documents of the land extent were thus handed over by Major General S.R.K Hettiarahch RWP RSP USP ndu psc to Mrs. Kalapathi Pathmaraja, District Secretary for Batticaloa District on Tuesday (6 June) after inviting the government officials to the same location. The gesture was carried out as per directions of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu.
4 Gemunu Watch (GW) troops of the 231 Brigade of the 23 Infantry Division under command to the Security Force Headquarters - East remained deployed in this land for security purposes.
The land patch belongs to some 56 people living around the area and the Batticaloa District Secretariat after verification of legal ownerships and other necessary information and details would release those plots to relevant owners in due course.
Senior officers, Officers, Other Ranks, Government Officials and land owners were present at the location when the East Commander and the Batticaloa District Secretary arrived at the premises.
