More than 250 Army Personnel Join Beach Cleaning in Point Pedro

A few more than 250 Army personnel and local residents of Point Pedro on Wednesday (28) worked on a mega community project to remove piles of trash and environmental pollutants that had been lying along the beach patch of Sathkotai and Urani following guidelines given by Major General, S.R.K. Tourists and locals have left the region, littered with polythene, plastic bottles, and numerous pollutants, endangering the environment and creating a health risk as dry weather spells aggravated the problem.

The clean-up effort was undertaken in collaboration with the Point Pedro Divisional Secretary's office and the Point Pedro Pradeshiya Sabha. Army soldiers worked with the Point Pedro Urban Council employees and the village development committees, members of sports clubs, members of Disaster Management Centre, Policemen and school students.

This project was conducted under the supervision of Major General M.K.U.P Gunaratne RSP ndu psc IG, General Officer Commanding 55 Infantry Division and Brigadier S.J Kariyakarawana RWP RSP USP, Commander, 551 Infantry Brigade.

4 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment troops contributed their manpower to the success of the project.
