Identical to the one in Kilinochchi, the Security Force HQ - Jaffna (SFHQ-J) with the noble objective of facilitating possibilities for the Jaffna youth and civilians to stage their inborn talents, cultural skills, folk musical features, conduct of health and educational projects and social events, set up the Jaffna ‘Harmony Centre’ on Saturday (25) promoting and bringing civil-military relations to new heights.
This Siththankerny-based new community centre, housed in a renovated old home would work as a bridge between the Security Forces and largely the underprivileged sections of the Jaffna inhabitants is a gift to the SFHQ-J by a donor who wishes to remain anonymous at the request of the Jaffna Commander, Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya.
Accordingly, the new ‘Harmony Centre’ in Jaffna is to be managed by the SFHQ-J in close collaboration with several well-wishers and senior citizens. The gesture that could accommodate many projects of civil community development nature would also serve as a basis for promotion of sports, IT and domestic industries in the long run.
On Saturday (25), the new ‘Harmony Centre’ which would rekindle hopes of durable peace, reconciliation and well-being of the Jaffna community was opened ceremonially by its conceptual architect, Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya during a simple ceremony at Siththankerny.
