The monthly meeting of the Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB) for July at the end of the day’s session, turned out to receive a series of donations, geared towards welfare of disable War Heroes.
The monthly meeting at SVAB auditorium last Friday (30), presided by Mrs Manjulika Jayasuriya, President, SVAB focused attention on ongoing welfare projects, being pursued across the country.
At the beginning, the ‘Brave Hearts’ project constructing the ‘Abimansala’, the wellness resort at Anuradhapura for totally dependant disabled War Heroes with the coordination of the SVAB received four water filters as gifts from Sri Lanka National Guard Seva Vanitha Unit, President Mrs. Deepika Wickramasinghe. They were to be used for disable War Heroes, expected to make use of the Wellness Resort. In addition, Ms Leela Gamage and Ms E.M Sarojani, thoughtful of the ongoing ‘Abimansala’ project gifted Rs 60,700/= in cash to Mrs Jayasuriya on the occasion.
Similarly, the widow of the War Hero, Corporal Manjula Seram who sacrificed his life for the motherland in Kilinochchi on 15th November 2008 received a sewing machine from the SVAB, enabling her to make a living. Meanwhile, Mrs. Janaki Sumanasena, a senior SVAB member, considering the scope of welfare work the SVAB is running, donated a wheelchair to the SVAB at the same occasion.
One more philanthropist, Mr. Shenon Fernando and a group of friends have come forward to donate Rs 1 million for the construction of a new house for the totally disable Second Lieutenant D.R.A.S Padmasiri of the 4 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment. The money has been raised by Mr Fernando and his friends. The first installment, Rs 300,000 of the donation was handed over to the disable officer who fought against terrorists in the past by both the donor and Mrs Jayasuriya at the same occasion.
Ceylinco Life Insurance Company meanwhile made a donation of donation of Rs.200,000/= to be distributed among four disable War Heroes who need support for completion of their partly built houses. Accordingly, Sergeant K.G.G.K Jayarathne (21 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment), Corporal L.P.A.S. Abeysinghe (3 Gajaba Regiment), Rifleman A.K.W.M Alagakkonara (14 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment) and Private Kulasuriya (5 Gajaba Regiment) received Rs. 50,000/= each from Ceylinco Life Insurance on the same occasion.
