Monday Clashes Kill Thirteen Terrorists

VAVUNIYA: IN ANOTHER FRESH round of fighting between Tiger terrorists in VAVUNIYA and MANNAR, troops were able to inflict losses on the terrorists and their resources Monday (19) morning and afternoon hours.

Troops in the Forward Defence Line (FDL) south of VELLANKULAM this morning (19) confronted a group of Tiger terrorists and killed three of them at about 9.00 a.m. while the terrorists were trying to break enter military-held areas.

Troops suffered no injuries in the clash.

In VAVUNIYA at about 1.00 p.m. this afternoon (19) troops killed six terrorists when they confronted a team of Tiger terrorists while the terrorists were on a secret mission across NAWATHKULAM in order to enter cleared areas close to the Security Defence Lines (FDL).

Meanwhile, a fierce gun battle erupted between troops and Tiger terrorists Monday (19) mid-noon resulted in the death of four terrorists in the general area south of PALAMPIDDI.

Troops following the ground confrontation launched an artillery attack on the enemy area. Tigers were trying to infiltrate the area when troops confronted them.

One valiant soldier sustained serious injuries and later succumbed to injuries on admission to the hospital.
