Modern Gymnasium for Officers at Army HQ Opened

Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage, Commander of the Army this morning (30) during a simple ceremony vested the well-equipped and newly-designed gymnasium at the Army Headquarters in officers serving the Army HQ.

The new gymnasium, completely equipped with Training Benches, Dumbbell Sets, Treadmills, Barbell Sets, Ellipticals, Rowing machines, balance trainers, etc has been designed to match with most modern standards that could invariably assist Officers to maintain their sound physique and all-time fitness, a compulsory requisite for the military career.

Switching on a new exercise machine, the day’s Chief Guest declared the fitness centre open to the users at the request of the Brigadier Nalin Bandaranayaka, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage afterwards had a thorough look inside the new unit and saw for himself their functional aspects. Physical Training Instructors available at the location demonstrated the use of those latest technological innovations to the Chief Guest and others.

The Army Chief was welcomed by Brigadier Nalin Bandaranayaka, Director Sports, together with few senior officers upon arrival at the location.

Senior Officers including Major General Channa Weerasooriya, Deputy Chief of Staff were associated with the day’s inauguration.
