Modern & Attractive Officers’ Mess in 11 Division Vested in Officers

The opening ceremony of the newly-constructed Officers’ Mess building of the 11 Division Headquarters at Pallekele, Kandy took place on Monday (25) during a ceremony, headed by Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake, Commander of the Army.

The new construction atop a tiny hilly slope, equipped with all modern facilities was built by Corps of Engineer Services (CES) Regiment troops of the Security Force Headquarters - Central (SFHQ-Cen) with funds allocated to the SFHQ-Cen.

After a warm welcome extended to him by Major General Ruwan De Silva, Commander, Security Forces – Central, together with Major General Tissa Nanayakkara, General Officer Commanding, 11 Division, the day’s Chief Guest was invited to warm the new complex after cutting a ribbon and unveiling a plaque to the same effect.

The traditional oil lamp lighting by the Chief Guest and other Senior Officers signalled the auspicious inauguration of this much-needed and attractively-built facility in the complex. After a while, the Commander, together with Senior Officers, had a close look inside the premises while inquiring into different aspects of the interior arrangements. At the same time, the day’s Chief Guest praised the group of 35 plus CES Army personnel who completed the project successfully to match with high standards in a beautiful setting.

Whilst the agenda was on, the occasion received more importance with the surprise arrival of Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva, Commander of the Navy who made a visit to Kandy area in connection with another Presidential project.

Towards the end of the arrangements, the Commander was invited to pose for a monumental photo before he left the premises after placing a few compliments in the visitors’ book, together with his Naval counterpart on hand.

Major General Niyshshanka Ranawana, Director General General Staff, Major General Jagath Gunawardena, Master General Ordnance, Major General Kumara Pieris, Chief Field Engineer, Brigadier Rathnasiri Ganegoda, Director Engineer Services, Brigadier Manjula Wijesinghe, Director Ordnance Services and several Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks attended opening ceremony.
