MOD Holds Multi-Religious Three-Month Remembrance 'Pinkama ' for April-21 Victims

Ministry of Defence (MOD) in cooperation with the MOD Seva Vanitha Unit in a mega multi-religious programme at the MOD main auditorium remembered the victims in the April 21 terrorist attack upon completion of 3 months on Sunday (21).

Secretary to the MOD, General (Retd) Shantha Kottegoda, Mrs Sonia Kottegoda, Chairperson, MOD Seva Vanitha Unit, Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake, President, Army Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs Chandrika Senanayake, Navy and Air Force Commanders, Chief of Staff, Major General Shavendra Silva and his spouse Mrs Sujeewa Nelson, senior tri-service officers, officers of the Police and Civil Security Department, MOD Military Liaison Officer and a gathering of Officers, ladies and Ministry Officials were also present at the religious ceremony.

Religious observances got underway after the members of the Maha Sangha, led by Agga Maha Panditha Most Ven Kotugoda Sri Dhammawasa Maha Nayaka Thero of Amarapura Nikaya were ushered to the auditorium in a procession. After the relic casket was brought by General (Retd) Kottegoda, the religious observances of Buddhist, Hindu, Catholic and Islamic faiths commenced transfer of merits to the victims in the terrorist attack and wished speedy recovery to those injured in the attacks. Religious dignitaries in their orations (anushasana) highlighted the importance of the national unity.

Alms (Daana) were subsequently offered to members of the Maha Sangha and religious dignitaries of other faiths after special commemorative rituals were performed. The Pen Wedeeme (water pouring) ritual was joined by General (retd) Kottegoda, Mrs Kottegoda, Lt. Gen Senanayake, Navy and Air Force Commanders.
