MIR’s New Colonel of the Regiment Visits Formations

Major General A.G.D.N Jayasundera, Colonel of the Regiment, Mechanized Infantry Regiment (MIR) visited the 2 MIR HQ and the Mechanized Infantry Training Centre on Thursday (27).

He was warmly welcomed by Lieutenant Colonel P.I Punchihewa, Commanding Officer, 2 MIR. A formal Guard Turnout at the entrance greeted the new Colonel of the Regiment in accordance with military traditions.

Brigadier S.J Priyadarshana, MIR Centre Commandant, Overlooking Commander, Mechanized Infantry Brigade, together with few Regimental Staff Officers accompanied the Colonel of the Regiment on the visit.

He planted saplings and listened to formal briefings during the stays in both places.

The second half of the day’s programme saw Colonel B.P.G.K Balasooriya, Commandant, Mechanized Infantry Training Centre welcomed the new Colonel of the Regiment, MIR on arrival.

He planted a sapling and sat for a group photograph before he listened to the Commandant’s briefing. Afterwards, the new Colonel of the Regiment was invited to open the new auditorium. He also had a look at the camp site and a demonstration in the miniature firing range before he addressed the troops.
