MIR's Outgoing Colonel of the Regiment Saluted at Regimental HQ

The Mechanized Infantry Regiment's (MIR) Regimental HQ held a formal farewell to its outgoing Colonel of the Regiment, Major General Channa Weerasuriya on Wednesday (30) at the MIR Regimental HQ in Dambulla, hours before he assumed office as the new Chief of Staff of the Army.

Brigadier A.M.A Abeysinghe, MIR Center Commandant welcomed him on his arrival at the camp premises after a formal Guard Turnout salute.

Afterwards, the day's Chief Guest was invited to pay tribute to the memory of fallen MIR War Heroes at the MIR monument. Subsequently, he reviewed the Guard of Honour, presented on his behalf at the parade ground and took the salute. After a while, showing his sense of gratitude to all ranks, Major General Channa Weerasuriya addressed the troops and thanked everyone for the support given to him.

Adding further significance, he was invited to open the newly-constructed Warrant Officers’ and Sergeants' accommodation building, erected by MIR troops inside the camp compound. A street-line salute, typical of military formalities afterwards saluted the outgoing 13th Colonel of the Regiment as he began leaving the camp compound.
