The General Officer Commanding of the 61 Infantry Division, Major General H.M.U Herath RWP RSP VSV USP Hdmc psc assumed duties as the 15th Colonel of the Regiment of Mechanized Infantry Regiment (MIR) on Saturday (10 June) at the Regimental Centre, Mechanized Infantry Regiment - Dambuluhalmillawewa.
The newly-appointed Colonel of the Regiment was warmly welcomed upon his arrival by Brigadier A.M.A Abeysinghe RWP RSP USP psc, Centre Commandant, Mechanized Infantry Regiment along with Regimental Council Members.
He paid tribute to fallen War Heroes at the MIR monument, prior to commencement of formalities. A Guard Turnout and a subsequent Guard of Honour saluted the incoming new Colonel of the Regiment. Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks of Mechanized Infantry Regiment participated in the event and joined a tea table at the end of the proceedings.
