The Army - constructed new shrine, built at Pubudu Nursery in Dehiappawa by troops of the Mechanized Infantry Regiment (MIR) at the request of the warden at the nursery was inaugurated amidst religious rites and rituals of the Maha Sangha on Saturday (26). The Centre Commandant of the Mechanized Infantry Regiment, Brigadier Anura Abeysinghe as the Chief Guest opened the new shrine.
The project got underway under the guidance of Major General Channa Weerasuriya, Colonel of the Regiment Mechanized Infantry Regiment with the financial assistance provided by the family members of an overseas-based philanthropist. Technical expertise and manpower of MIR troops at the Mechanized Infantry Regiment erected the shrine at the invitation of the warden in the nursery.
Amid Buddhist religious rites and rituals, the inaugural occasion took place with the participation of the Maha Sangha. Colonel Indika Punchihewa, Deputy Centre Commandant of the Mechanized Infantry Regiment, Regimental HQ, Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks attended the event. Troops distributed free refreshments to all the kids and attendees.
