The Mechanized Infantry Regiment (MIR) HQ at Dambuluhalmillawewa in a formal ceremony bade farewell to their outgoing Colonel of the Regiment Major General Priyanka Fernando, held on 05 December.
Brigadier Kumara Wanasinghe, Centre Commandant, Mechanized Infantry Regiment HQ along with Regimental Council Members welcomed him on arrival at the premises.
Soon after a Guard Turnout salute to him at the entrance, the formal event began with wreath-laying at the MIR war heroes' monument. After that, he was greeted presenting a salute in the Guard of Honour parade. Later on, he addressed the troops and thanked everyone for the cooperation extended to him in his capacity as the 12th Colonel of the Regiment.
As part of the day's itinerary, he was also invited to open the newly-constructed Medical Inspection Room, Regimental Library and the newly- constructed Open Air Theatre on the day of his farewell. Prior to his departure, he left some compliments in the MIR Visitors’ Book.
As the vehicle carrying him began moving out, a street-line salute was presented to him by all Officers and Other Ranks as an appreciative gesture.
