MIR Infantrymen Given Regimental Badges


25 offices and 120 other rankers of the Mechanized Infantry Regiment (MIR) during a special ceremony at its MIR Regimental Centre, Kekirawa, were recently awarded Regimental Badges by Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe, Colonel of the Regiment, MIR.

The Regimental Badges thus awarded symbolizes that those soldiers are now recognized as infantrymen attached to the Mechanized Infantry Regiments of the Army.

Major General M Hathurusinghe was warmly welcomed at the entrance to the MIR Regimental Center and accorded a Guard of Honour at the Regimental Center grounds in keeping with military traditions.

The ceremony saw the Colonel of the Regiment, MIR as the Chief Guest awarded those badges at the MIR Regimental grounds.

Meanwhile, during the same occasion, officers and other ranks of the MIR initiated many welfare programs at the MIR Regimental Center, Dambulla with the purpose of enhancing welfare facilities of those infantrymen on the directions of Major General M Hathurusinghe. 

In the meantime, an ice cream manufacturing unit was launched as a pilot project with the assistance of officers and troops of the MIR with the cooperation of expertise, made available to the MIR by ‘Transfer of Technology to Villagers’ (VIDATHA) and a few other institutes. It was declared open by Major General M Hathurusinghe on the same day.

Similarly, a cement brick making project, sponsored by the MIR Seva Vanitha Unit was opened by Mrs Dhammika Hathurusinghe, Chairperson, MIR Seva Vanitha Unit.

In addition, the Wanapiyasa Holiday Bungalow and the Tree House where all ranks can receive holiday accommodation were also opened by the Colonel of the Regiment.

At the same time, Major General M Hathurusinghe inspected several ongoing construction projects which had been launched in order to upgrade the existing facilities of officers and soldiers at the administrative wings of the MIR, Regimental Centre.

Construction sites of the other rankers’ Mess and accommodation building, Officers’ Mess and a two-storied Cabana came under for inspection of Major General M Hathurusinghe.

Mrs Dhammika Hathurusinghe, senior officers, Seva Vanitha ladies and other rankers took part in these series of programmes.
