Cricket teams of the Sri Lanka Military Police (SLCMP) and Sri Lanka National Guards (SLNG) on Wednesday (11) vied with each other for supremacy in the Inter-Regiment Cricket Tournament that took place at Saravanamuttu (Tamil Union) grounds at Borella.
In the final 50 over match, SLCMP did the batting first and bagged 193 runs. After offering a sound resistance, its rival, SLNG however went all out scoring 182 points, thus giving the championship to the SLCMP with a lead of 12 points.
This annual event, one of the most interesting and challenging encounters among troops, is organized and coordinated by the Army Cricket Committee, chaired by Brigadier V. R Silva who is also the 55 Division General Officer Commanding in Jaffna.
Chief of Staff, Major General A. M. C. W. B Seneviratne, as Chief Guest attended the awards ceremony to give away prizes and shields to those who excelled in the match. Brigadier V. R Silva, Director, Army Provost Marshal Brigadier A. B Thoradeniya, several Senior Officers and a large gathering of cricket fans were present to witness this final encounter.
