The legendry military leader, Late Lieutenant General Denzil Kobbekaduwa's 28th death anniversary took place this evening (8) at the statue of the iconic personage in the heart of Anuradhapura town, organized by late stalwart's own Sri Lanka Armoured Corps (SLAC) Regiment.
This great War Hero of contemporary times along with a team of renowned military commanders and soldiers fell victim to an LTTE landmine blast on 08 August 1992 at Arali Point in Jaffna while they were proceeding to plan an operation.
Lieutenant General Denzil Kobbekaduwa whose leadership and command brought about many victories to Sri Lanka Army during early battles of the Eelam wars fell silent on 8th August 1992 along with fellow-military veterans, Major General Wijaya Wimalarathne, founding father of the prestigious Gajaba Regiment (GR) which has produced the incumbent Army Commander, too, Rear Admiral Mohan Jayamaha, Lieutenant Colonel H.R Stephen, Lieutenant Colonel G.H. Ariyarathne, Lieutenant Colonel Y.N Palipana, Commander Asanga Lankathilaka, Lieutenant Colonel Nalin de Alwis, Lieutenant Commander C.B. Wijepura and the soldier, Private W.J Wickremasinghe while they were on a military assignment in Araly Point in Kayts, Jaffna.
The day’s proceedings comprised religious observances, observance of two-minute silence, commemoration speech, laying floral wreaths to the monument, sounding of the last post, sounding reveille and other military traditions.
Colonel Commandant of SLAC and General Officer Commanding, 12 Division Major General Prathap Thilakarathna as the Chief Guest laid a wreath and commenced the event.
The commemoration ceremony was attended by the Commander Forward Maintenance Area (NC) Major General Ranjan Premalal along with the General Officer Commanding of 21 Division Major General Vikum Liyanage, senior military Officers representing Security Force Headquarters - Wanni and 21 Division and a large number of Officers and Other Ranks.Running Sneakers Store | Nike sneakers
