Military Farewell Held at SFHQ-J for Outgoing Jaffna Commander

The Security Force HQ-Jaffna (SFHQ-J) on Thursday (16) in a formal military ceremony bade farewell to its outgoing Commander, Security Forces-Jaffna, Major General Jagath Kodithuwakku, prior to undertaking of his new office as Deputy Chief of Staff at the Army HQ.

A Guard Turnout, accorded to the outgoing Commander at the entrance greeted him on arrival before he was invited to review the Guard of Honour military salute presented by Sri Lanka Army Light Infantry troops. A few minutes later, the outgoing Commander placed his signature in the Visitors’ Book leaving memories as the Commander Security Forces Jaffna.

After posing for a group photograph with GOCs, Brigade Commanders and Staff Officers of the SFHQ (J), he addressed the troops where he offered his sincere gratitude to All Ranks serving in respective formations for high standards of professionalism, maintained and service rendered to maintain a peaceful environment while promoting civil-military coordination in the peninsula.

After he took office on 19 July 2021 as Jaffna Commander, he launched a number of welfare projects in order to elevate living standards of deserving people by launching many social welfare projects despite the COVID-19 pandemic, for which he implemented many preventive measures. Constructing houses for deserving families, provision of spectacles and wheelchairs for the deserving, conduct of medical camps and blood donation campaigns, provision of dry rations packs and school stationery items with the assistance of foreign and local well-wishers, etc were among a few of those humanitarian projects. He further promoted a number of programmes for ex-servicemen in the North, such as delivery of their medicine quota to doorsteps and continued to appreciate them.

Towards the end of the day's farewell programme, he was awarded a memento by the Brigadier General Staff at the SFHQ-J. All GOCs, Brigade Commanders, COs and Other Ranks were present at the military formalities.
