MIC Celebrates Its 25th Anniversary Day Giving Priority to Remembrances

Troops of the Military Intelligence Corps (MIC) commemorated its 25th Anniversary (Corps Day) at its Regimental Headquarters, Karandeniya during 25-26 January and paid their sentimental gratitude to family members of fallen MIC War Heroes as a priority.

At the invitation of the Colonel Commandant, MIC, Major General Rukmal Dias, the founding father of the MIC, General Lionel Balagalla (Rtd) who was also a former Commander of the Army joined the commemorative programmes at Karandeniya, adding more dignity to the occasion.

The Colonel Commandant was welcomed by the Centre Commandant on arrival at the Regimental Centre before he was invited to take the salute of the Guard Turnout and the subsequent Guard of Honour as a formality on the anniversary day (25). The customary planting of a Sandalwood sapling in the premises by Major General Dias afterwards added memories to the 25th Anniversary before everybody sat together for a sumptuous fellow-lunch treat.

During the latter part of the programme, children of fallen MIC War Heroes and those disabled but still serving All Ranks in the MIC were awarded incentives as encouragement for their studies by way of scholarships, gift sets, etc as tributes to the memory of their loved ones.

At the end of the day’s event, a solemn ceremony at the MIC War Hero monument, headed by the founding father of the MIC, General Lionel Balagalla (Rtd) who was also a former Commander of the Army, recalled the memories of fallen MIC War Heroes and flocked to the venue.

Major General Rukmal Dias, Colonel Commandant, MIC with the former Commander of the Army, General Lionel Balagalla (Rtd) and a host of other Senior Officers took part in a wreath-laying ceremony at the foot of the aesthetically crafted MIC monument and revered the memories of fallen War Heroes.

A two-minute silence in memory of all War Heroes was then observed before religious observances of all denominations, got underway around the monument premises.

Next of kin of family members of fallen War Heroes lined up and paid their respect to the memory of their beloved ones afterwards.

On the following day (26), Major General Dias felicitated retiring Officers and Other Rankers during a special meeting held at the premises, during which he awarded special mementos to those Army personnel. A musical entertainment later on the day marked the culmination of the anniversary arrangements.

General Daya Ratnayake (Rtd), former Commander of the Army, Major General Jagath Alwis (Rtd) and Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe were associated with the day's events.
