TRINCOMALEE: TWO MEN trying to grab the T-56 weapon of an airman serving the Air Force roadblock in the general area of THAMBALAGAMUWA, KANTALE close upon midnight on Tuesday (1) were overpowered killing one on the spot.

Those two men entering the roadblock area through a jungle path have pretended that they had lost their way and wanted to reach KANTALE town at that hour of the midnight at about 11.30 p.m. As the chatting continued, two of them suddenly pushed the airman aside and tried to snatch his weapon but the quick action of the fellow-airman on duty struck one of them while the other criminal was gunned down by the affected airman himself.

The injured criminal was admitted to hospital and the post-mortem into the death of the other one was to be held at any moment on Wednesday (2). Both men according to the Police are believed to have been connected to LTTE terrorists who have infiltrated the east.

Those criminals were to be identified. Police investigations are in progress.

Meanwhile, a businessman in ABEPURA UPPUVELI area was shot dead by a gunman suspected to be from the LTTE while he was returning home Tuesday (1) night at about 8.15a.m.

Police investigations are of the view that the businessman would have received the wrath of the terrorists because of his connections to the civil society and Security Forces.
