Memories of Araly Point War Heroes Refreshed & Saluted

Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, Commander of the Army during his two-day stay in the Jaffna peninsula did not forget to pay tribute to the memory of the legendary veteran, Lieutenant General Denzil Kobbekaduwa and nine other War Heroes who paid the supreme sacrifice for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the motherland at Araly Point in Kayts Island, Jaffna some 27 years ago.

Placing a floral-wreath and recalling their bravery while observing a solemn moment, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva saluted their memories during this brief memorial ceremony, joined by several General Officers Commanding, Brigade Commanders and Commanding Officers serving the peninsula. On arrival at the location, he was received by Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya, Commander, Security Forces-Jaffna.

After vigil drill performed by the soldiers, the Army Chief marched to the monument and paid tribute to their memories.

Lieutenant General Denzil Kobbekaduwa, Major General Wijaya Wimalaratne, founding father of the Gajaba Regiment and Rear Admiral Mohan Jayamaha along with some officers and other ranks who were all travelling in a vehicle was targeted in an LTTE landmine at Araly Point on 8 August 1992.latest Nike release | Asics Onitsuka Tiger
