A mega combined cleaning project to rid polythene and plastic pollutants from the heart of Jaffna city and township areas was launched by 51 Division troops of the Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ-J) on Sunday (12) with the support of Sri Lanka Police, Special Task Force and Disaster Management Centre participants, together with Mr. Vamadeva Thiagendran, Founder and Chairman of Thiyahie Charitable Trust Fund, a leading citizen in the peninsula.
On a notion, proposed by Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya, Commander, Security Forces – Jaffna, troops of the 51 Division, commanded by Major General Lalith Rathnayake, General Officer Commanding 51 Division actively contributed to the drive in order to make the entire city free from those pollutants.
Commander, Security Forces - Jaffna, District Secretary for Jaffna, Mr. Kanapathipillai Maheshan, Secretary to Department of Education in the Northern Province, Mr. L Illangoven, General Officer Commanding, 51 Division, Commissioner of Jaffna Municipal Council, Senior Army Officers, Director of Disaster Management Centre in Jaffna and troops joined the campaign and carried it out throughout the day.
