Mannar-based 54 Division troops of the Security Force HQ-Wanni on intelligence, found a stock of 26.9 kgs of Kerala cannabis (Ganja), kept concealed in a safe place in Ouluthuduwai beach front in Peasalai.
A search operation carried out on Friday (23) night under the supervision of Major General Indrajith Bandara, General Officer Commanding, 54 Division on the guidelines given by Major General Priyantha Perera, Commander, Security Forces-Wanni was able to detect the contraband, suspected to have been smuggled in and kept hidden among bushes along the beach.
In another detection on Sunday (25), the K-9 sniffing dog of the Commando Regiment, attached to the roadblock, manned by 7 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment troops of the 54 Division at Thalady, Mannar found 9 grams of Kerala cannabis from a bus, proceeding from Thalai Mannar to Colombo.
Troops are engaged in supporting the government’s all out programme to eradicate drug menace from the country on the instructions of the Commander of the Army.
