Mammoth ‘Pinkama’ at Jethawanaramaya Commemorates Supreme Sacrifices of War Heroes

In what could be considered as one of major commemorative events of the Army that coincides with the ongoing ‘Ranaviru Commemorative Year’, the troops of Saliyapura-based Gajaba Regiment (GR) Headquarters in collaboration with Neth FM and Colombo TV held a mammoth War Hero commemorative ceremony on Saturday (23) at the most sacred Anuradhapura ‘Jethawanaramaya’, one of the most venerated pagodas in the country.

Meticulously programmed Kanchuka Pujawa, Ashtapana Pujawa, Chathumadura / Gilanpasa Pujawa, etc administered by Ven Galigamuwe Gnanadeepa Thero, a leading preacher in the country was spearheaded on the directions of Major General Shavendra Silva, Colonel of the Regiment, GR and Chief of Staff at the Army Headquarters.

The religious programme focused on transfer of merits to fallen brave War Heroes of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Police and Civil Defence Force who made the supreme sacrifice and invocation of blessings on differently able, serving and retired tri-service War Heroes. The day’s itinerary got to a start with a colourful procession (Perahera) that wended its way to the premises carrying offerings.

The inaugural oration, ‘Anusasanawa’ was delivered by Ven Ihala Halmillaewe Rathanapala Nayaka Thero, Viharadikari of the Jethawanaramaya soon after observance of five precepts. Major General Shavendra Silva in a brief address afterwards mentioned the value of sacrifices that had been made by War Heroes and how they brought about peace. He also expressed his gratitude to the Commander of the Army for accommodation of the project and the support given to its success.

Religious rites and rituals were then performed jointly by Ven Galigamuwe Gnanadeepa Thero, Ven Wathurakumbure Dhammarathana Thero, Ven Ganekande Chandarathana Thero and Ven Medirigiriye Punyasara Thero who also conducted brief sermons during the event.

About 3000 family members of fallen War Heroes and differently able Officers and Other Ranks participated in the programme with over some 20,000 family members of Gajaba War Heroes also attending.

GR Regimental Council Members, Centre Commandant Brigadier Harendra Peiris, Deputy Commandant, Colonel Mahinda Rajapaksha, Commanding Officers, Staff Officers at the Regimental Headquarters GR, members of the Gajaba Regiment Seva Vanitha Unit, ‘Neth’ FM Chairman and staff, Chairman and staff of Colombo TV channel and a distinguished gathering were also among the devotees who joined the day’s mega event.Authentic Nike Sneakers | Nike KD 14 Colorways, Release Dates, Price , Iicf
