Malwatte Maha Nayaka Visits Kilinochchi &;amp; Vavuniya with Gifts to School Children

Most Ven Thibbatuwawe Sri Sumangala Maha Nayaka Thero of Malwatte Chapter during a recent tour to the northern Kilinochchi and Vavuniya districts gave away books and school accessories to over 1500  students in Vavuniya.

The Maha Nayaka Thero, as the first leg of his tour visited the new Security Forces Headquarters, Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN) where the visiting religious dignitary gifted a water purification unit to the Headquarters (SFHQ-KLN) as a gesture of goodwill. Major General Chandana Rajaguru, Commander, (SFHQ-KLN) respectfully received the visiting prelate and briefed him on the Army’s role at present in the area. On his way to Vavuniya, the prelate afterwards visited the Task Force 3 Headquarters and the Mankulam Buddhist temple and shared views with soldiers and monks in the temple.

The climax of his visit was at Vavuniya Cultural Center where a huge gathering including clergies of all denominations had flocked there to receive him. Ms P.S.M Charles, District Secretary for Vavuniya welcomed the Maha Nayaka Thero to the area and expressed the people’s gratitude for his concerns. After religious orations of the clergy were over, the prelate delivered an anushasana (oration) and invoked blessings on the people in Vavuniya and began gifting school accessories to the children and teachers who have been invited to the occasion.

The visiting Maha Nayaka Thero was accompanied by Mr Pradeep Nilanga Dela Bandara, Diyawadana Nilame at Sri Dalada Maligawa, Mr Mohan Panabokke, Basnayaka Nilame at Sri Vishnu Devalaya, Mr Nirmal Madanayaka representing Atlas Company Ltd and several others.

Major General G.D.H.K Gunaratne, Commander Security Forces Headquarters, Wanni, Brigadier A.S.De.Z Wickramarathne, 21 Division Commander and several senior Army Officers and Civil Administrators were present at these ceremonies.
