YOGAPURAM Vidyalaya, Mallavi in Mullaittivu was re-opened from today (9) for the students in the area. Thunukkai, Mallavi and Poonager areas were cleared of landmines under ‘Uthuru Wasanthaya’ programme and resettlement of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in those areas have been in progress after about 30 years of terrorist control.
The government had taken steps to rehabilitate the schools in those areas for the use of students and under this project Mallavi Yogapuram Vidyalaya was reopened while two more schools are to be reopened next week according to the governor of Northern Province Major General (Retd) G. A. Chandrasiri.
Donation of books, uniforms and school equipment to students and distribution of bicycles among teachers of Yogapuram Vidyalaya took place on Sunday (8). The governor of Northern Province Major General (Retd) G. A. Chandrasiri, Secretary to the Northern Province Education Ministry Mr. Lakshman Ilangovan and senior government and Army officers were also present.
