Major Nalinda Rathnayaka Bags Three Gold Medals in London 'World Taekwondo Championship - 2023'

The Army Taekwondo player, Major R.B.N Rathnayaka of the Sri Lanka Army Service Corps participating in London's ‘World Taekwondo Championship -2023' of the World Union of Martial Arts Federation won three Gold Medals in Single, Double and Team events under above 40 year categories.

The Championship tournament got underway at A-2 Arena Crawley London during 16-19 August where players from 17 countries vied for supremacy.

Major R.B.N Rathnayaka is one of the most-seasoned international level Taekwondo players in the country who has earned a wealth of experience for having competed with players of more than 30 countries during his impressive journey of sports and Taekwondo. He is the incumbent President of the World Military Taekwondo Committee of the International Military Sports Council (CISM) from the year 2016 to-date.

He also joins military history as the first-ever Sri Lankan Military Officer to have been selected for such a prestigious appointment in the CISM.

Directorate of Sports facilitated the passage of the player with the blessings of the Commander of the Army.
