Major General U.D Wijesekera RWP RSP USP rcds psc assumed duties as the new Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF) during a ceremony, rich with military formalities at the SLAVF Headquarters in Kosgama on Monday (9 Oct).
On arrival, he was warmly received by Major General M.T.K.R Silva KSP, the SLAVF Deputy Commandant. After reviewing the Guard Turnout, the newly-appointed Commandant paid his tribute to the memory of fallen SLAVF War Heroes by laying a wreath at the memorial.
After a while, the incoming appointed Commandant was ushered to the saluting dais by the SLAVF Deputy Commandant where the Guard of Honour salute was accorded in his honour by the Sri Lanka National Guard troops.
A few minutes later, the Commandant amid chanting of ‘Seth Pirith’ Major General U.D Wijesekera RWP RSP USP rcds psc placed his signature for an official document, symbolizing the formal acceptance of the office.
Afterwards, the Commandant planted a Mango sapling in the compound before he joined all members of the SLAVF HQ for refreshments.
The Commandant during his address extended his gratitude to all ranks for the warm reception and underscored that the proud SLAVF history of 142 years should be upheld.
A large gathering of Officers and soldiers including the SLAVF Centre Commandant, Brigadier Coordinating, Colonel Coordinating, Officers, Liaison Officers of the Security Force Headquarters and Commanding Officers of Volunteer Battalions along with the SLAVF staff.
