Major General U.A Karunarathna (Retd) of the Sri Lanka Light Infantry Regiment (SLLI) passed away at his residence in Colombo 5 on Thursday (1) following a brief illness. He was 80 years of age.
During his military career, he served the office of Deputy Commandant at then Kotelawala Defence Academy, Director, Personnel Administration, Commander, 31 Brigade, Military Secretary at the Army HQ, General Officer Commanding for Ampara and Trincomalee Districts. He also held the appointment of Colonel of the Regiment, Sri Lanka Light Infantry.
His remains are now lying at ‘The Respect’ parlour at Jayarathne funeral Directors at Borella. Funeral arrangements with full military honours will take place at 5.00 pm on Saturday (3) at Colombo General Cemetery.
