Major General U. D. Wijesekera RWP RSP USP rcds psc, assumed office as the new Commander, Security Forces- West on Friday (17 August 2023) at the Security Force HQ-West at Panagoda.
The newly-appointed Commander Security Forces-West was greeted with a Guard Turnout and a Guard of Honour by troops of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers soon after his arrival in the premises in accordance with military traditions.
After the formal military honours, Major General U. D. Wijesekera RWP RSP USP rcds psc took over duties amidst religious observances and placed his signature symbolically in an official document to signify the acceptance of his new office. Thereafter, the new West Commander planted a sapling in front of the main office complex to mark the assumption of duties and posed for a group photograph.
After the formalities, Major General U. D. Wijesekera RWP RSP USP rcds psc addressed the troops, emphasizing the significance of discipline and its integral role in achieving success. He shared his vision for the command and outlined his goals, inspiring the troops to work towards common objectives. In an effort to build camaraderie and forge connections with the troops, the new West Commander also participated in an All Rank tea.
After a while, the staff officers of the Security Force Headquarters -West provided a comprehensive briefing to the new West Commander. This briefing covered their respective duties and responsibilities as well as the current deployment status and ongoing nation-building roles.
The General Officers Commanding of 61 and 14 Infantry Divisions, Brigade Commanders, Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks of the Security Forces Headquarters-West participated in the day’s inaugural ceremony.
