Major General S.R.B Aluvihare RWP RSP ndu psc was appointed as the new Chief of Staff of the Army on Thursday (20) and received his letter of appointment as the 64th Chief of Staff of the Army from Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, the Commander of the Army, at the Commander’s office. Major General S.R.B Aluvihare RWP RSP ndu psc served as the Commander, Security Forces - Central prior to this appointment and is also the Colonel of the Regiment of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment.

Major General S.R.B Aluvihare RWP RSP ndu psc was born on 16 September 1969 and he is a proud product of Maliyadewa College, Kurunegala. He joined the Regular Force of the Sri Lanka Army as an Officer Cadet on 26 July 1988 to the Intake 31 of the Sri Lanka Military Academy, Diyatalawa. Subsequently, he completed basic military training at the Indian Military Academy. Then, the Senior Officer was commissioned in the Rank of Second Lieutenant on 05 October 1990 and posted to the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment. Throughout his career, spanning over 35 years, he has gained a wealth of experience and competencies from the many command, staff and instructional appointments he held.
In his early career, the Senior Officer held all the appointments in Battalion level such as Platoon Commander, Intelligence Officer, Officer Commanding and Second in Command. In addition, he commanded the 4 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment. He rendered his service in different locations under diverse capacities such as the Commander of the 571 and 553 Infantry Brigades and also as the General Officer Commanding of 58 and 11 Infantry Divisions. Sharing his knowledge and expertise with the grooming Officer Cadets of the Sri Lanka Army, the Senior Officer has served at the Sri Lanka Military Academy as an Officer Instructor, Company Commander, Adjutant, Chief Instructor and Commanding Officer - Officer Cadet Wing. Further, the Senior Officer was also appointed as the Special Young Officers Course Coordinator at the Infantry Training Centre. In addition, the Senior Officer served as the Commandant of the Army Training School in Maduru Oya.
Enriching his remarkable career in the service, he has attended a number of local and foreign courses of academic and professional value such as the Young Officers’ Course in Pakistan, Officers’ Transport Management Course, and Junior Command Course in India, and the Infantry Battalion Commander Programme in China.
The Senior Officer has been awarded the gallantry awards of Rana Wickrama Padakkama (RWP) and Rana Sura Padakkama (RSP) for his distinguished conduct in the face of the enemy. Furthermore, he is a graduate of the National Defence University of China. He is also a graduate of the Defence Services Command and Staff College, Sapugaskanda. He obtained his Master’s Degree in Defence Studies at the University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka.
Major General S.R.B Aluvihare RWP RSP ndu psc is married to Mrs. Thushara Yatiwawala and blessed with two daughters.
