Major General Sisira Pilapitiya, New Mullaittivu Commander Assumes Duties

Major General Sisira Pilapitiya of the Vijayabhahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) assumed duties on Wednesday (23) as the new Commander, Security Forces - Mullaittivu during a formal ceremony.

The newly-appointed Mullaittivu Commander was welcomed in a Guard Turnout at the HQ premises by 18 VIR troops soon after he arrived at the SFHQ-MLT compound. Adopting all health concerns, routine military ceremonials generally related to such office inaugurations were held on low scale.

Subsequently, Major General Sisira Pilapitiya in his new office symbolized the assumption of his new office by signing an official document amid religious observances of all faiths. Later on, he was invited to plant a Mango sapling in the premises to mark the day's event.

A few minutes later, he addressed All Ranks present at the location representing all Divisions, Brigades and training establishments under command to the SFHQ-MLT and spelt out his future strategies for smooth conduct of affairs in Mullaittivu area.

Prior to this appointment, Major General Sisira Pilapitiya served as the General Officer Commanding of the 55 Division in the Jaffna peninsula. He succeeds Major General Upali Rajapaksha of the Commando Regiment who just retired from the Army.

Commander, Forward Maintenance Area -Mullaittivu, General Officers Commanding of under command Divisions, Brigade Commanders and Commanding Officers of all under command establishments attended the inauguration of the new office.
