Major General Lal Chandrasiri, New SF-E Commander Takes Over Duties

Major General Lal Chandrasiri of the Gemunu Watch assumed office as the 22nd Commander, Security Forces - East on Wednesday (15) amidst religious and traditional military formalities at the Security Force Headquarters - East (SFHQ-E) premises at Welikanda.

The day’s proceedings commenced with the new East Commander’s arrival where a Guard Turnout saluted him at the entrance. He was warmly received by Brigadier General Staff SFHQ-E, Brigadier Sujeewa Jayasinghe before he was invited to review the Guard of Honour, presented by 4 Gemunu Watch troops at the location.

In the midst of ‘Seth Pirith’ chanted by members of the Maha Sangha, Major General Lal Chandrasiri accepted his new appointment, placing his signature symbolically for an official document at the auspicious minute. Later on, the Commander posed for a group photograph with the General Officers Commanding, Brigade Commanders, Commanding Officers under command to the SFHQ-E and Staff Officers.

Setting out his scope of work and duties, the Commander, Security Forces - East afterwards addressed the troops and urged them to work jointly and ensure unity, dedicated commitment and personal health. He also insisted the need of preserving the Army image and maintaining of its standards at all levels for smooth conduct of work in the SFHQ-E.

Major General Lal Chandrasiri is also the Colonel of the Regiment of the GW Regiment. Prior to his new appointment, he served as the Overall Security Coordinator and Director General Infantry at the Army Headquarters.
