The new Colonel of the Regiment, Commando Regiment - Major General Krishantha Gnanaratne assumed duties on Tuesday (29) during a simple ceremony adhering to health guidelines at Commando Regimental Centre at Ganemulla.
A few Senior Officers witnessed the assumption of duties in his new office.
Major General Krishantha Gnanaratne is currently the Commandant at the SLMA, Diyatalawa. He joined the Regular Force of the Sri Lanka Army as an Officer Cadet of the Intake 29 in February 1988 and was commissioned to the Commando Regiment on his own will in December 1989 to serve the Nation in the face of the brutal terrorism that was emerging.
He is also an alumni of the prestigious Royal Military Academy Sandhurts (RMAS) in the United Kingdom. He was the first Commando Officer to receive training in the RMAS.
