Major General Jayanath Jayaweera, Colonel of the Regiment, Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) and the incumbent Commandant, Officers' Career Development Centre (OCDC) at Buttala, one of the best infantrymen, ever produced by the SLLI Regiment on the eve of his retirement from the Army after an exemplary service of more than thirty four years received appreciative commendation from none other than Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army this afternoon (25) when the former was invited to the Commander's office.
Speaking highly of his commitment to the duties in all appointments and the efforts he has made to upgrade infrastructure facilities at the OCDC and qualitative modules he added to the OCDC curriculum, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva shared a couple of views with the outgoing Senior Officer, praised him and inquired into his future prospects after transitioning to civil life. The Commander commended him for his achievements in the SLLI Regiment by way of initiating housing projects, Yoghurt project and other welfare measures as well as the infrastructure work done to the Regiment in his capacity as the Colonel of the Regiment.
Appreciative of offices, he held during his career, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva refreshed the memories about his unforgettable roles as Director Personnel Administration, Military Spokesman and Director Media in the Army and a few other important offices and mentioned that he was one among the few to have read for the prestigious royal college defence studies (rcds) course in the UK. He also did not forget to recall undying memories during battlefield encounters and the experiences they both gained during the road to victory against terrorism.
Presenting a special memento and extending best wishes to Major General Jayanath Jayaweera for his future endeavors, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva thanked him for the cooperation he has extended throughout. Major General Jayaweera in return awarded a token of appreciation to the Army Chief and thanked him for the Commander's excellent support given for the performance of his Army duties.
