Major General Abrew Greeted in his Mother Regiment upon Promotion

Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) Regiment HQ at Panagoda on Wednesday (19) extended its greetings to one of its brilliant Senior Officers, Major General Wasantha Abrew, Director Plans at the Army Headquarters upon his visit to the HQ at Panagoda after his elevation to the rank of Major General.

In accordance with military traditions, the newly-promoted Major General Abrew was greeted to a Guard Turnout at the entrance to the SLLI-RHQ before he was invited to receive the salute in the Guard of Honour, accorded in his honour.

Giving pride of place to military formalities, he also paid his tribute to the memory of fallen War Heroes at the SLLI monument in the premises. Afterwards, a group photo added memories to the occasion.

At the same time, Major General Abrew in a touching move, fed the Regimental mascot, ‘Kandula’ with a tray of fruits and cuddled it for a few minutes before he addressed the troops.

Towards the end of the day’s programme, Major General Mahinda Mudalige, Colonel of the Regiment, SLLI, appreciative of Senior Officer’s new elevation presented him with the album that contained all the photos, connected to his visit to the HQ after his promotion.

After an all rank tea arrangement at the Warrant Officers’ Mess, the day’s proceedings culminated.
