MAJ. GEN SENEVIRATNE APPOINTED NEW CHIEF OF STAFF

Deputy Chief of Staff and Colonel Commandant Sri Lanka Signal Corps, Major General A. M. C.W.B Seneviratne USP ndc psc has been appointed the new Chief of Staff with effect from 01st July 2004.

The office of the Chief of Staff fell vacant after Lt. Gen S. H. S Kottegoda took over as Commander of the Army on 01st July 2004.

Major Gen Seneviratne, enlisted to the Army on 05th February 1970 as an Officer Cadet was commissioned on 01st June 1971 as 2nd Lieutenant and posted to 1 Sri Lanka Signal Corps.

Major Gen Seneviratne before he assumed duties as Chief of Staff, to his credit, held a number of key appointments, including the Office of Commandant, Sri Lanka Volunteer Force, Director General, General Staff, Commander, Security Forces Headquarters, Wanni, Commandant, Army Command and Staff College, Quarter Master General, Commander, Security Forces, Jaffna, General Officer Commanding 23 Division, Minneriya, officiating General Officer Commanding for 52 Division, Deputy General Officer Commanding 54 Division Kilinochchi, Director, Military Intelligence, Commander, 32 Brigade (Kandy), 18 Brigade (Anuradhapura), 11 Brigade (Ratnapura) and 19 Brigade (Elephantpass), Commanding Officer 3 Sri Lanka Signal Corps, Anuradhapura, General Staff Officer 1, Joint Operations Command (Colombo), General Staff Officer 11 (Plans) Army Headquarters, Officer Commanding 1 Squadron 1 Sri Lanka Signal Corps, Panagoda, General Staff Officer 111 (Operations /Coordination), Adjutant, 1 Sri Lanka Signal Corps, Signal Officer, Palaly and a few others.

Major Gen Seneviratne, who followed the Pacific Armies Management Seminar Course (Canada), National Defence College (ndc) Course (Pakistan), Overseas Seminar, USA, Staff College Course, Bangladesh, Signal Degree Engineer Course 1 & 11 (India), CIJW Course (India) and Young Officers Course (India), had undertaken several overseas visits on official assignments to UK, India and Bangladesh.

He has also been decorated with Uttama Seva Padakkama (USP) in recognition of his dedicated service. He is married to Mrs. Nilanthi Seneviratne.
