Major General Sampath Kotuwegoda assumed office as the 21st Colonel Commandant of the Regiment of Sri Lanka Artillery (SLA) on Thursday (29) during a colourful ceremony, held at the SLA Regimental Headquarters, Panagoda. He is also the Commander, Security Forces-Kilinochchi.
The day's proceedings commenced with laying of a flower wreath to the memory of fallen War Heroes at the Regimental Monument. A Guard Turnout and a Guard of Honour presented to the incoming Colonel Commandant by SLA troops afterwards added formalities to the inauguration of his new office.
In a symbolic gesture at his new office, Major General Sampath Kotuwegoda placed his signature in a formal document in the presence of Council members, Commanding Officers, other officers and staff of the RHQ after observance of brief religious practices and lighting of the traditional oil lamp. He also addressed Officers at the Officers' Mess and spoke out his plans as the new Colonel Commandant.
