MAJ. GEN. KOTTEGODA APPOINTED NEW DEPUTY CHIEF OF STAFF

Major General S. H. S Kottegoda, the newly appointed Deputy Chief of Staff in the Sri Lanka Army assumed duties on Wednesday (08) at his office after a brief religious ceremony and a customary tea party hosted by staff at his new office.

Major General Kottegoda, who is also presently the Commandant, Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force Headquarters, was blessed by religious dignitaries before he lit the traditional oil lamp and placed his signature for an official document to symbolically mark the event.

Maj. Gen. Kottegoda\'s new appointment was made after the former Deputy Chief of Staff Major General A. E.D Wijendra\'s retirement from the Army.

Maj. Gen. Kottegoda, to his credit, held a number of prestigious appointments during his Army career spanning well over 33 years.

During the famous Jaya Sikuru operation to wrest control of the A-9 road, Maj. Gen. Kottegoda commanded 55 Division playing a crucial role in the face of the enemy. He has also served as Director General, General Staff at Army Headquarters after he worked as Security Forces Headquarters Commander (Wanni), an appointment very much recognized and held in high esteem in the Army.

In recognition of his distinguished services in the Army and numerous gallant deeds performed, he was chosen for highest accolades including Weera Wicrema Vibushana (WWV), Rana Wickrema Padakkama (RWP) and Rana Sura Padakkama (RSP).
