The Army Training School (ATS) at Maduru Oya, one of the most pioneering training establishments of the Army last Sunday (14) marked its 33rd Anniversary giving pride of place to a religious programme and a community project.

More popularly known as the 'ATS' in the Army circles since its founding in 1985 has been commanded by 32 Commandants. This year's anniversary programme was directed by the incumbent Commandant at the ATS, Brigadier H.J Seneviratne.

Commandant, Officers and Other Rankers at first offered alms to members of the Maha Sangha at Kandegama temple on the anniversary day and received blessings on the school. The military segment of the anniversary ceremonies took place at the ATS ground after the Commandant was greeted to a formal Guard Turnout on arrival at the premises. The Commandant reviewed the parade afterwards and received the salute before he sat together with everyone for an All Rank lunch, later on the day.

All Ranks at the ATS similarly carried out a self-help, 'Shramadana' programme at Kandegama Maha Vidyalaya in connection with the 33rd anniversary. Troops cleaned up the entire premises and removed garbage from possible Dengue breeding spots.

All Ranks at the ATS afterwards took part in a friendly cricket tournament as one more segment of the anniversary programmes.
